Week 2:

Hala Fawzi
Hi from "sunny" Sudan and welcome to Becoming a Webhead(BaW")session. The session that has "changed, not only my career life, but my whole academic, social and cognitive life!!!(Me.BaW2005)I am Hala from Khartoum, the heart of Africa where the Nile flows. I am an EFL Lecturer at university level. I teach EAP for Medicine and Dentistry students. I am also a Tutor at the Open University of Sudan. I have been an online lurker for several years, but a true online learner since I have joined BaW2005. Integrating Tech into classrooms is still difficult in poor resource countries like Sudan, so I am trying to be the first one who is well prepared to do it when the time comes! Webheads taught me a lot about using web tools in teaching and learning, and that learning, sharing, caring and FUN can go together. My dream in life is to win the lottery to fly in around the world trip from one weheader to another!!!

Looking forward to meeting you all during this great session. Hang- on to the end and you will never regret it.

Leanne Mackenzie

Leanne calls herself "a wannabe-ESL teacher" who currently works as a medical laboratory technologist in Kamloops BC, Canada. In preparation for a mid-life
career change, she certified to teach ESL, and then decided to Become a WebHead. Since discovering chat in BaW 2005, Leanne has used both text and voice chat extensively to keep in touch with family and friends from literally around the world.

Leanne is pleased to co-moderate Week 2 with her WebHead friend Hala, from Sudan. Leanne's biggest dream is to one day teleport to Sudan to give Hala a f2f hug.

Week 3:

Maria Teresa Ciaffaroni

I’m Maria Teresa Ciaffaroni. I teach English in a language and business oriented secondary school in Rome, Italy, called “ Lucio Lombardo Radice”. I’m the author of an ESP course book for Business and ICT. I’m also a teacher trainer and I have delivered several presentations on the impact of ICT on language learning/teaching. A few years ago I attended a postgraduate online course in Techniques and methods of online training. I have been an online tutor in a couple of courses organized by the Italian Ministry of Education. I’m currently completing a Master course in Professional Development for Language Education at NILE Leeds Metropolitan University. I participated in Becoming a Webhead 2005 and greatly enjoyed it.

Cora Chen

I am an ESL instructor at City College of San Francisco. I have taught both ESL and Chinese courses at City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University.

I received my master’s degree in English from San Francisco State University where I also majored in music.

Being a participant in BAW 2005 was a wonderful learning experience that broadened my horizons. This extraordinary group opened the door for me to the magic of cyber space where I can explore technologies in teaching. I’m inspired to take the journey through the cyber space with BAW 2006 and look forward to learning more from my distinguished colleagues around the world.

Week 4:

Christina (Chrissan) Ljunggren

I have been into teaching for the last 25 years, can’t believe that time has passed so quickly! Today I teach 16-19 year-old students at Nils Ericsonsgymnasiet in Trollhättan, Sweden.

A year ago I joined BaW 2005, having very little experience of computer aided language teaching (CALL). This 6-week-course has definitely changed my professional life and has given me an enormous amount of new friends. I almost envy you for starting the adventure today!

Barbara Chap

I’m an American (former financial consultant) living in Germany and have been teaching/coaching English to adults at their places of work for the last 11 years. Besides classroom work with a focus on Business English, I give seminars and workshops – especially in communication skills: not only what you say but how you say it in a cultural context.

I became interested in Webheads in 2005 when I found myself in competition with a school that offered “online English.” I’ve learned an incredible number of useful teaching tools, the learning never stops.

By far the best thing about becoming involved in BaW is making on-line friends and getting support for my new skills. We even visited two Webheads (including my co-moderator, Chrissan) on our vacation in Scandinavia. Another result of this on-line networking is I’ll be co-presenting with other Webheads at the TESOL in March in Tampa.

Week 5:

Gladys Baya

Gladys comes from Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she has been teaching English to all ages and levels for nearly 20 years now. She’s married, and the proud mother of two little daughters, and divides her time between her family, teaching f2f and online classes, and enthusiastically exploring ways in which teachers can integrate new technologies into their teaching to enhance learning of foreign languages. Last year, she joined BAW during EVO 2005, and it was love at first sight!

Her favourite quote? “If a teacher could be replaced by a computer.. they should!” ;-)

Sharon Holdner

Hello from Boston! I teach Integrated Business Skills in a blended environment at a private language school in the Boston area and am also adjunct faculty at the University of Phoenix where I teach English Composition "on ground" to native speakers.

In 2005 I was a participant in BaW for the first time. I was delighted (and relieved) to discover a community of exceptional colleagues who are always available to "lend a hand" with collaborative projects and lead me through the magic of cyber space.

I'm looking forward to another fantastic six weeks of exploring technology in teaching and developing new friendships :-)

Cristina Costa
Hi! My name is Cristina, an EFL Teacher from Portugal and an Educational Technology learner. I am always looking forward to learning more and improve my performance as an educator. The web, and the social environment that it provides, has been a discovery for me. In fact, after a couple of years I am still delighted with its potential. The interactions and the social bonds produced online are just amazing as well as the knowledge that is thus constructed. I really found a new world online that allows me to share and discuss ideas with people from all over the world. These meetings have been very productive and worthwhile to me, not only as a teacher but also as an individual. I have learned a lot, a lot, a lot…. And I just don’t want to stop. The Webheads have made this possible!
Hope we’ll be able to share some ideas
