I've encouraged my friends from Brasilia to take the baW-06 and I hope you get to "see" some of them here! I would also like to share my humble experiences with you. I got to know about the webheads when I attended the EUROCALL2005 in Krakow, Poland. I teach English to international students at a polytech, Unitec in Auckland

Yahoo ID: krnhaines

I'm Karen Haines and I live in Auckland, NZ. I'm looking forward to the sessions
very much - have been telling myself I should think about BAW for the past
two years I think, and have finally found time to do it. Something to be said for End of Year Resolutions.
I teach English to international students at a polytech, Unitec in Auckland - many of them are delighted to have a teacher interested in technology (and to show her how to do things!!). Last year was my year of discovering blogs - and have
thoroughly enjoyed using them both for myself and with my students, so not sure where to venture in 2006. And I guess that's my expectation of these sessions - to be inspired and educated in what we can do with technology, so as to be a better teacher all round. Looking forward to new ideas and playing with new toys! The more fun, the better, as I think Dafne or Teresa said!

Berta Leiva

I work at Simón Bolívar University,
Caracas, in the Language Department

Yahoo ID: bleiva2003

This semester I am teaching the
graduate course "Theories and Methods of Foreign Language Teaching" which is very theoretical but I try to include as much student
reflection as possible through activities such as diary entries, oral presentations with application tasks and mind maps. Last year I was very fortunate to participate in BaW and designed a blog and an electronic questionnaire which were key instruments in an administrative reflection process. Thanks Teresa and Dafne for sharing with us all your invaluable knowledge, dedication and
personal warmth. You have changed more lives than you know. This
year I hope to keep up with as many activities as I possibly can with a dial-up connection at home and DSL at work, and I will make sure to double check on the exact hour for my time zone for synchronous activities and download Elluminate and Alado ahead of time. It´s great to be back and learn so much from such a diverse virtual
community of friends. Let´s get started and have some F.U.N.

I have been an ESL instructor for adults for 10 years at various university, college, and private schools. I currently work for
relocation companies as a private ESL tutor to expatriate families. In the near
future, I would like to build my own courses and offer them through the

I used to work at a hospital teaching medical English to doctors but at the moment I am teaching at a high school where I coordinate the English Department.
I also coordinate a school of English. My interest in incorporating ICT into my EFL lessons started about five years ago when I took an online course on how to participate and design collaborative projects with global participation. After this course, I took part in several projects of this kind on a variety of topics and last year I designed my own. About four years ago, I met Gladys Baya, who had just introduced herself, and shared with her some talks on the use of ICTs for the EFl classroom. It is thanks to her that I will be enjoying this session with you all. I hope we can learn a lot together.

María Claudia Bellusci

Argentina

31. María Claudia Bellusci

I have been teaching English at public schools for
over 20 years

Yahoo ID: mcbellusci

Well, well, cyberspace is smaller than I had thought. How nice to share this experience with Gladys and Silvana, two very inspired (and inspiring) teachers. My students' ages range from 12 to... well, God knows!!! I was becoming interested in the pedagogical use of computers, when I attended a lecture by Gladys and Silvana. I made up my mind to go on learning about all this. I've learnt a lot these past few years, mainly by reading what other teachers are doing and trying things myself. At present I train other teachers in the use of computers and try to transmit my enthusiasm to them.
I'm sure this is going to be a very rich course and I'm going to try and get the most of it.
Greetings to all of you from sunny and hot (very hot) Argentina.

I am an English teacher with 25 year experience and a teacher trainer with 10
year experience. I used to work as an Associate Professor for the local
University, but for the last 10 years I work as the Projects Coordinator for the
British Council organization in Ukraine

Yahoo ID: olganozhnina

I coordinate BC ELT activities in the south of Ukraine and Crimea and one of them is providing assistance to English teachers in their work in Science Across
the World online project. Not to mention the technical problems (not many schools have Internet access, poor/very slow internet connection) I’ve encountered a number of difficulties in my work, like keeping teachers in web space, developing a taste for professional networking, keeping initial enthusiasm last to mention by a few. My expectations
from the course are better ICT skills and solutions to my issues found together in our work on the course. One more objective is introducing a group of Ukrainian teachers to a wider ELT community. Beware, we are joining in mass! Ten teachers from Ukraine are joining various topics and in March we are organizing a roundtable to share our experience with others. Probably some of you would be
interested to join?
In June I got my Postgrad Certificate in Teacher Trainer Development from the Exeter University (UK), spent July traveling as a rehab activity and here I am looking forward for a new opportunity of getting
involved in collaborative learning and networking with lots of ‘online’ peoplesharing my interest in ICT for ELT

in autonomous learning.

Yahoo ID: slrubena2003

I'm from Trinidad, but I've been living for the longest while in Caracas, where I work with Dafne and Berta. This is my second time in BAW, having participated last year with Berta. I really learned a lot from the sessions I could attend. Computer crashes,
internet service provider failures, being stressed out because you couldn't connect....entering a session when people were leaving.. were also part of the
learning process. I enjoyed every moment of it, even when I was pulling my hair out! This year I'm better equipped to handle anything and everything that comes along (invested in a new laptop, too!!) Thanks to BAW I've designed my own webpage which I use in my EST reading class and 50% of the class is done online.
I also worked up the nerve to participate in Wia last november thanks to Dafne and Teresa!!! For the brand new members, I'd just like to tell you that you're joining a wonderful community. Not only are Dafne and Teresa super wonderful individualswho are always there when you need them with advice and ideas, but the othermembers of the group as well. There's always someone who is willing to listen to you, help you out or share new information that they've found. I hope that this year I will be able to contribute something to the
discussions. I'm sort of shy. If anyone is interested in autonomous learning
or material development, drop me a line

I'm quite acquainted with Webheads through my friend and enthusisatic coordinator Rita Zeinstejer. Ready to make new
webfriends: hope I may become 'brave' as well through experiential cyberspace
learning, sharing, collaborating while having a whale of a time...I stumbled over a virtual classroom for the first time long ago but still don't think I'm doing justice to blended learning. I also run Action Research sessions as part
of our TD programme. Here I would like to learn more about tools to be able to design online courses but guess I have a long way to go. Big ideas, wait Analía,
wait. As to TE, I teach Language and Pscycholinguistics at Instituto de Enseñanza Superior "Olga Cossettini', a state TT College where I happened to graduate 22 years ago (Come to think of it, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then!). I trust 'bravery' will reach my college before retirement and that I can
add a grain of sand to reduce cyber-resistance in newly graduates. I'm sure these sessions will do the trick to get me going! Your generosity is
impressive!

I'm English and live in France. I worked in international sales and marketing before moving into education some 12 years ago. I
started getting interested in online teaching about three years ago and took the LeTTOL (Learning to Teach Online) course to help me along. I, like Karin (NZ), have wanted to get involved with Webheads for a couple of years and have never found the time (weak excuse I know) and thanks to Daf, I am here at long last. Thank you! Although I teach online, I have a lot to learn and, like Kat, I often feel I'm not smart enough, so I'm really excited about this course: especially so after spending a wonderful weekend participating in the WiAOC 2005 Convergence and a very special thanks to you all again for a most enriching experience !!

emerging through online communication so need to keep up to date with all the latest trends. I'm also embarking on a course in online education (online) this month, so BAW is bound to provide lots of fruitful input. You see, like the rest of you, I'm hooked - so I think Webheads is for me.

I'm from Poznan,Poland. My main current interests & courses are advanced English grammar and Information Technology. The latter is a new course which I am designing from scratch, so it is both challenging and exciting. The course is supposed to prepare future teachers to use the computer in their work and help them understand and appreciate some of its potentials. I work with my students on things like internet based activities, materials design
(word processor, Paint, Hot Potatoes and the like), web page design, audio files recording and editing, video editing, but also using spreadsheet for test result
analysis and designing their own electronic register. I have joined the group to find out more about the use of computers in teaching,
so that I can include this in my course. I'm sure I can learn a lot from everyone here. My problem may be participating in synchronous events because of
my tight schedule, but I understand I can follow the events at other times from

I'm just now finishing up my (distance) MS Ed. TESOL. (In previous lives I worked in retail public relations, magazine promotion, fund raising, and theater academics.) I'm originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, but now call Moscow home, and would love to meet the other Muskvichi in the group. I use internet for searching the internet sites about materials for class, info about different topics, and about a lot of other things. I've got a colleague
who has already been on creating webquest and she recomended this to me as a way to learn a lot about internet, improving internet skills and of course, having
fun at the same time. I was overwellmed this morning when I saw that I have 120
messages in my inbox but I think that is a good sign
because it means that all members are active participants. I expect that at the end of this course I will improve my internet skills and

teacher and learner to have a classroom with no walls. Learning came out of experiencing things first hand. Common sense, right? But my
students here in Japan have trouble making that connection with English. So I hope that what I learn in this group will help me break down the walls of my classroom and give my students many different
ways to learn and use English. Looking forward to all the fun in the next six weeks with you!

By 'lite' I mean things that don't require HTML or programming but involve using other people's good programs, likeYahoo! Groups and freewebsites for dummies sites. Using the latter, I have made websites that link to great sites that other people put tons of time into for English and intercultural learning.
Only once have I made a blog, and I've done other things at JALT (Japan Association for Language Teaching) CALL conferences that I could not likely repeat (e.g., use Moodle) without help. I once was able to set up email keypals but that takes good timing if it's cross-countries since school terms start and end at such different times. So I have lots to learn! Thus, I'm eager to hear some of the ideas to enhance blended learning, mixing tech and personal.... Well, I'm braindreaming of what this course will be like as it's my

I live in Santander, north of Spain. I'm Spanish, 44, a
teacher of English in the last 21 years and mother of two children. At work we are 53 teachers of English, French, German and Italian, most of us Spanish, we have a total registration of about 5000 students every year, next year we'll start Portugese. I've also done some English-Spanish translation workshops at the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo in Santander. I've been an on-and-off school administrator: headmaster for 5 years and head of studies for 7 years. Too much stress in the long run! I'm doing my thesis on collaborative environments. I find one important drawback to all this international learning and teaching cooperation. Setting up everything is basically time consuming. When I have to
go through all the "technicallities" I'd like to forget about it. The "super PCnetworker" to rely on doesn't exist at school (neither it does in
the rest of schoools around me), so I have to do it myself, and I don't find so much time to do long hours. My family is important to me, so I think that only
people with plenty of energy should get involved in this kind of activity. However what is the point of learning a languge you will never use? I need to
feel motivated by the fact that my teaching is useful for my students, that they can see it is actually working and that they get motivated to appreciate
that it all comes down to human communication. Santander is a beautiful place. I imagine yours too.

I graduated as an English teacher in 1988 and since then I have taught EFL at elementary and secondary schools; EAP and ESP at the university level; General English in language schools or academies; and in-company Business English. Last year, I participated in Baw-05. It was the first time I took an online workshop. When it started, I felt nervous and overwhelmed. I received bunches of emails everyday, and I was getting crazy. But when I decided to get relaxed, I understood what this is all about. I enjoyed every single thing I could do. It was such a wonderful experience that I want to live it again.
After the workshop, I created a Yahoo group for my undergraduate students. It was the first time we all worked with it. We did marvellous and interesting things together. Besides, I have introduced blended learning to my f2f courses, and I am currently doing research on it. It's been WOW!
