Building an online presence: Blogs and Web pages
Well, it is time to have some fun. Why don't you start creating your
own blogs, and even simple Web pages? Take you pick!
1. start by visiting our BaW-06
blog , and feel free to explore and write your first impressions.
What would you like your blog to be about?
2 . join Barbara
Dieu and Graham
Stanley at the Alado/Webheads
room on Tuesday 31st., at 20:30 GMT for a presentation on "the
use of blogs and podcasts in language learning";
3 . explore different Web hosts (GeoCities,
Tripod, Bravenet)
and choose the one you seem to feel more comfortable with;
a. plan the content and layout of your (first) Homepage;
b. create your first Web page and enhance it with an image or photo;
c. send the URL to the list and ask for impressions and feedback;
d. create a link to your Homepage in the Links section
(menu on the left) of the BaW YGroup;
e. enhance your plan and create a couple of other Web pages with links
to one another;
4. explore blogger hosts (Live
Journal, Blogger, Edublogs,
Bravenet,
Tabulas, Xanga)
and, if you so wish, create your own. If you do, let the group know the
URL so that everybody can take a look and post comments. Check out these
tutorials: LiveJournal
- Blogger
Note: Look for a complete list of free and paid hosting
services in the Links section of our Yahoo Group.
5. send your reflections on practical applications of blogs and Web pages
to your daily teaching, advantages and disadvantages.
6. if you are in the mood of adventures, we encourage you to try a wiki.
We have created one for you to explore and experiment. Don't be shy give
it a try ;-) BaW-wiki
(we will provide the password in our Yahoo Group distribution list).
Questions of the week:
1. In the Web editor you selected:
a. How do you create a link to a different spot on the same page/document?
b. How do you create a link to another document?
2. What HTML tag is used to make "bold" letters?
Let’s see who can answer these questions! Remember to post your
answers to the list.
