Activities:

Getting Ready:

  1. Do the pre-reading vocabulary interactive activities. The links are available in Moodle (front page) or on our course Web page (activites - week 2): http://dafnegonzalez.com/id3125-05/content/activities.html
  2. Write down (using any Word processor, I suggest NotePad) all the words which are unknown to you.
  3. Go to the Glossary created in Moodle and copy the words and their meanings.
  4. Read the text in the reading guide.
  5. Make sure to underline any unfamiliar word you find. Look up the word in a dictionary, it can be an online dictionary (Merriam Webster, OneLook, Voycabulary, or any other).
  6. Enter the words in the Glossary.

Main Tasks:

  1. Summarize the text by creating an outline or a mind map (brain map).
  2. Copy the outline or mind map on a Word document (use colors and graphics if possible).
  3. Post the document to the forum called "Rhythm mind map" in Moodle (do this step together with step 8 below).
  4. Using this mind map or outline, prepare a paragraph with a summary of the text (write it down). No more than 15 lines.
  5. Downlown Handybits to your computer.
  6. Record the summary of the reading (see step 4)
  7. Save the recording to your computer
  8. Post the brain map or outline to the forum (Rhythm mind map) and attach the recording.

Note: you can practice your pronunciation by using SitePal (text-to-speech bot) -use the try now button - Create your bot, and then write down your paragraph and have the bot read it for you. If you cannot copy the whole paragraph at once, divide it in two or three parts. Listen carefully to the pronunciation.
