Hi,
everyone.I'm Dennis Oliver. I teach ESL and English at a community
college in Avondale, Arizona (a "satellite city" west
of Phoenix proper). I've also taught in university-based IEPs,
for-profit ESL schools (ESL), and been a textbook editor, curriculum
/ materials developer, and administrator.
I've taught all skills in all levels, but
I like grammar, writing, and pronunciation best.
If by "ICT" Information and Communications
Technology is meant, I can say that I'm not a geek but am
also comfortable (most of the time) with using a computer.
I first started using computers 18 to 20 years ago, when I
worked for an ESL author. I've done this and that online for
about 10 years.
Most of my current classes are web-enhanced,
but I've been working on a hybrid grammar class (intermediate
level); it will be presented for the first time during the
Fall 2005 semester.
I
have no clear expectations for this course other than hoping
to both learn and share ideas for working with grammar and
vocabulary using WWW-based materials. |

Hello
All. I am pleased to see some colleagues from PP100 on the classlist.
I have taught ESL at elementary, college, and adult education
levels in Brazil, Mexico, and the United States. About ten years
ago I decided to leave teaching for a more lucrative career
path, so I took my skills to a corporate environment. Now I
am searching for a satisfying work/life balance and would like
to get back into classroom teaching. I thought this certificate
program would be a good way to update my skills. Currently,
I am working part-time as a Market Manager for a Chicago-based
software company. Since February I have been a tutor for an
online teacher training course. In
this course I expect to learn more about conducting successful
online courses and how to create effective vocabulary and
grammar activities.

ALOHA!!
My name is Masaki. I am originally from Japan. But, now, I am
studying at Hawai'i Pacific University majoring in Teaching
English as a Second Language (TESL). I am going to graduate
this May (two more weeks to graduate!!). After the graduation,
I am going to work at the Concordia Language Village in Minnesota
as a Japanese teacher for my Optional Practical Training (OPT)
this summer. I may go there from June 5 to July 25. The program
is interesting that students come to study language in a camp
setting. In a camp, students must speak in Japanese, so it would
be like an emergent program setting. Since it is a camp setting,
I may not be able to use any technological device. However,
for my future career as a teacher, I would love to expand my
knowledge of technology.
After I come back from the Concordia Language
Village, I will study at University of Hawai'i at Ma:noa to
pursue a second BA in Religion from this fall semester.
I
only know that we can use Hot Potatoes to create activities
from PP100 I took this March. In this class, I would love
to learn more ways to create activities using online. |

Hi
all, nice to see some "old faces". I just got back
from sunny Corsica, France last night after two weeks, so am
in the re-entry of doing laundry, stocking the frig and waking
up at 3:00 am. Can't complain, however.
I live in Washington, DC and work adjunct
from professor at American University in the MA TESOL program.
I teach Methodology, Teaching theory, Linguistics, and Language
Assessment. I have used a lot of what I have learned in these
classes in my own classroom as a way of integrating technology
into my own classes and using them as an example for my student
teachers as to how they too can use technology as a learning
tool in their own classrooms.
We use blackboard so I guess that would qualify
as a blended class of internet and lecture. I have also done
TEFL teacher training on-line for a company in England.
I
look forward to talking to you move over this coming month.

Hi
everyone,
I recognize some names from the recent PP100 course I took.
For others whom I don't know, I teach ESL part-time at Montgomery
College in Rockville, MD. I started out in life pursuing ESL
full-time, but I got sidetracked into computers and now work
full-time as a database administrator. Two years ago, I got
interested in using the computer to teach my grammar/writing
classes at MC and use WebCT to set up hybrid or blended classes.
Lately, I have been teaching reading classes, but I would like
to go back and add new things to the grammar course.

I
have been teaching EFL/ESL in the US and Greece for twelve years.
I currently live in Athens Greece and I am teaching freshman
English at a small private university. I am intersted in going
beyond what I learned in PP100 and create online activities
for my students. I am really excited to get started and I am
looking forward to meeting everybody. |

I
have taught all levels, pre-school through adults, in language
schools and universities abroad. I am back in Arizona now looking
for a job closer to home. I have used computers as part of my
classes but have not been in a fully online situation. I used
Blackboard.com to create an online component for intermediate
EFL reading/vocabulary class. Students had reading assignments
from the links page, used the discussion board, and took quizzes.
I have created online assignments for many of my reading and
content classes since. While working in a community college
learning center, I was responsible for the online writing center.
I have used online situations to instruct students, but I need
more technical skills to develop my own modules and courses. |
